Beita District, a district under the jurisdiction of Shaoyang City, is located in the northern part of Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, adjacent to Shaoyang County to the west, Xinshao County to the north, and facing Shuangqing and Daxiang districts across the river in the southeast. The total area is 83.72 square kilometers. Jurisdiction over 2 streets and 3 townships, the district government is located in Cai’e Road, Zhuangyuanzhou Street.

In 2015, Beita District has 1 township and 2 sub-districts after the adjustment of the township zoning.

The main agricultural products in Beita District include vegetables, rice, oranges, poultry and livestock, and lilies. Among them, the Longya lily from Chenjiaqiao Township has a history of more than 300 years of cultivation. The meat is thick and tender, and the color is white. It is sold overseas. The Baitian radish from Chayuantou Township is shaped like a sand jar and has succulent meat. It is eaten raw like lotus root, crunchy and sweet. After being cooked, it is smooth and soft; Tianjiang’s live pigs, Chayuan’s ducks, and Jiangbei’s chickens have become large-scale and have their own characteristics.

Location context

Beita District, Shaoyang City, was established after Shaoyang urban planning adjustment in October 1997. It borders Xinshao and Shaoyang counties, and faces Shuangqing and Daxiang across the river. Geographical coordinates: latitude 27°11″29″-27°18″12″ north latitude, longitude 111°20”48″-111°29”23″ east.


Beita District is located in the Hengshao Hilly Basin. The hills and hills in the territory are undulating, and the valleys and plains are embedded in it.

There are various types of landforms, complete with mountains, hills, hills and flat land, various soil types, high organic matter and nitrogen content, and fertile soil.


The Zijiang River flows through the whole area from west to east, and two-thirds of the villages live by the river. Zijiang, also known as Zishui, is one of the four waters in Hunan and a major tributary of the Yangtze River. Zijiang is divided into Nanyuan and Xiyuan. The main source is Nanyuan, Dayi Water, which originates from Zijiang County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and flows through Zijiang, Xinning, Shaoyang and other counties and cities in Hunan. The west source is Heshui, which flows through Wugang, Longhui and other counties and cities. After the two rivers converge at Shuangjiangkou in Shaoyang County, they are called “Zijiang”.


Beita District has a mid-subtropical climate with alternating monsoons and four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature in the territory is 17.2℃, with a minimum of 16.2℃ and a maximum of 18.1℃. January

is the coldest and the hottest in July, with an annual average of 28.5°C. The daily extreme minimum temperature is -10.5°C, the daily extreme maximum temperature is 39.5°C, and the annual average frost-free period is 277 days. The multi-year average rainfall is 1323.0 mm, and the rainfall days are 161.1 days. The rainfall time is mainly concentrated in April-June, accounting for 44.4% of the annual average. The multi-year average snowfall days are 9.6 days, and the number of snow days is 5 days. The annual average sunshine duration is 1533.2 hours, with July and August the most, accounting for 30.7% of the whole year.
