Fengfeng mining area is located in the southern part of Hebei Province, at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces, with a regional range of 36°20’—36°34′ north latitude and 114°3’—114°16′ east longitude. Fengfeng Mining District was established in 1950, and was returned to Hebei Province in 1952. In 1955, it was changed to the provincial government of Fengfeng City. In 1956, it was removed from the city and established as a district, and it is now under the jurisdiction of Handan City.
The whole district covers an area of 353 square kilometers, governs 9 towns, 1 township, and 1 sub-district office, with a total population of 530,000. It is a resource-based old industrial and mining area. In 2017, the Fengfeng mining area completed a regional GDP of 18.94 billion yuan.
In December 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of a national rural governance system.
Fengfeng mining area is located in the southern part of Hebei Province, on the eastern foot of Taihang Mountain, with geographical coordinates of 36°20’—36°34′ north latitude and 114°3’—114°16′ east longitude. Located at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces, it borders the Taihang Mountains to the west, the southern Hebei Plain to the east, Mingshui to the north, and Zhanghe River to the south, 500 kilometers away from Beijing. The Fengfeng mining area is 22.2 kilometers long from north to south and 18 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 353 square kilometers.
The fengfeng mining area is an intermountain basin on the west and a sloping plain on the east. The highest elevation is 891 meters. Fengfeng mining area is located at the eastern foot of the southern section of Taihang Mountain, which is the transition zone between Taihang Mountain and North China Plain. The Gushan Mountain in the central part runs from north to south. To the west of Gushan is the shallow erosion-accumulation topography composed of Hecun and Wu’an structural fault basin; to the east of Gushan is the slope-diluvial mountain front slope, which gradually transitions into the North China Plain.
The fengfeng mining area is located in the mid-latitude zone, with an annual dryness of 1.4 degrees, belonging to a warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate. The south wind and the north wind alternate, and there is a weather process about every 4 to 6 days. The maximum wind speed over the years is 14m/s. The precipitation in spring accounts for 12.7% of the annual precipitation in the region.
